Every journey has chapters that test us, change us, and remind us what truly matters. For Alexis, those chapters were made a little lighter because Roxie was there through every step, offering quiet comfort, unwavering loyalty, and a love that never asked for anything in return. Together, they faced incredible challenges, celebrated hard-earned victories, and discovered strength in one another. Today, we’re honored to share their story. Let’s dive into our conversation with Alexis, Roxie’s mom.

How has Roxie been a true companion on your life’s journey?

Roxie has been my constant through some of the hardest and happiest moments of my life. During the year I was diagnosed with cancer, she was right by my side. At the same time, she was recovering from IVDD, so we leaned on each other through our healing journeys. She has shown me unconditional love every single day and reminds me to keep moving forward.

What’s a moment that perfectly shows the beautiful bond you two share?

One moment that will always stay with me is during our recoveries. Even when she wasn’t feeling her best, she always wanted to be close to me. We’d spend hours cuddling on the couch, comforting each other. It reminded me that sometimes love doesn’t need words—just being together is enough.

In what ways has she walked beside you through change, growth, or healing?

Roxie has been there through every chapter. She helped me find joy during difficult time and recovery, and she inspired me to build a community through our dachshund meetups with our co-host friends. She’s helped me grow as a person, teaching me patience, resilience, and the importance of finding happiness in the little moments.

When you look back on your time together, what part of the journey feels most precious?

The most precious part is knowing we made it through our toughest year together. Watching Roxie recover from IVDD while I recovered from cancer made every milestone feel like a victory. Those experiences made our bond even stronger, and I never take a single day with her for granted.

What does it mean to have Roxie as your constant, loyal sidekick every step of the way?

It means everything. She’s more than my dog—she’s family, my best friend, and my biggest source of comfort. No matter what life brings, I know she’ll be there with her wagging tail, reminding me that I’m never alone.

When I photograph your dog, I do my best to capture more than just how they look. I hope to preserve their personality, their spirit, and the little expressions that make them uniquely yours.
